TL;DR: I made a free 5E Monster for you! Check out the video to learn more or just download the PDF below.
Longer Version
When writing my adventure A Delve In The Cave (compatible with D&D 5th Edition) I got the notion of adapting a creature from Welsh folklore rather than just use more generic monsters such as kobolds or goblins—especially since the original Monster Manual was sorely lacking in fey creatures.
I also got it in my head to create video content explaining how kobolds were D&D-ized based on the original legends and how that relates to above-mentioned Welsh critter.
And now I've got it into my head to make this a regular thing to be hosted on my Patreon page! Every month there will be at least one video that looks at a monster with a long-established tradition in the game and I will give you a variant monster with full writeup and rules, presented as Open Game Content so you can use it freely for both personal and professional use.
So enjoy the Coblynau—nasty little fey critters that live in caves and mines, causing accidents and havoc to those who intrude in their dark dwellings and interrupt their work with a black & white illustration from my friend and long-time collaborator Lindsay Archer!
Promotion: A Delve in the Cave
Did you know I wrote an adventure compatible with Fifth Edition? It’s a love-letter to the adventures I played in the early 80s but incorporating everything I’ve learned in the course of my career. It combines mystery, roleplaying, and good ol’ dungeon crawling to complete its challenges—and comes with a full-color tactical poster map for reference or miniatures play!
