When writing my adventure A Delve In The Cave (compatible with D&D 5th Edition) I got the notion of adapting a creature from Welsh folklore rather than just use more generic monsters such as kobolds or goblins—especially since the original Monster Manual was sorely lacking in fey creatures.
I also got it in my head to create video content explaining how kobolds were D&D-ized based on the original legends and how that relates to above-mentioned Welsh critter.
And now I've got it into my head to make this a regular thing to be hosted on my Patreon page! Every month there will be at least one video that looks at a monster with a long-established tradition in the game and I will give you a variant monster with full writeup and rules, presented as Open Game Content so you can use it freely for both personal and professional use.
So enjoy the Coblynau—nasty little fey critters that live in caves and mines, causing accidents and havoc to those who intrude in their dark dwellings and interrupt their work with a black & white illustration from my friend and long-time collaborator Lindsay Archer!
